An event honoring Rue McClanahan has been canceled due to the actress's hospitalization.
"Golden: A Gala Tribute to Rue McClanahan" was to take place November 14 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. However, due to cardiac illness, McClanahan has been ordered to stay in bed.
"My darlings, I'm just devastated that I am going to have to miss my own tribute at the Castro Theatre," she said in a statement on Wednesday from her hospital room. "Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I'm currently having some maintenance on the old ticker. Trust me, I'd much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you."
Gala organizer Marc Huestis wished McClanahan a speedy recovery and suggested that the event may be postponed to a later date.
McClanahan, 75, best known for her role as Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls, recently played Peggy Ingram in the comedy series Sordid Lives, which was based on the Del Shores play and film.
I sure hope she gets well soon. We have lost two golden girls recently and this would also be a huge blow for those that love her. She is such a GREAT actress and I hope she does get to attend her tribute. I loved her as Blanche

UPDATE: Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan is doing well after undergoing a cardial bypass, according to the actress' rep.
"She is doing absolutely great," McClanahan's rep told Access Hollywood. "She went for her physical the other day and her doctor didn't like what he found.... She was in great spirits when she went in for surgery yesterday. She's resting in a hospital in New York and she'll probably be out in a week."

I'm soooooo glad to hear that Rue is going to be okay! I was really upset when I heard about the other two from The Golden Girls had passed. I love watching that show when I was young and I still enjoy watching that show in rerun.
Peace,
Laura

There were so many seasons thank goodness that I think I probably watch everyday. It's one of my favorite shows ever. I'm glad she is doing better.
